17th Street Barbecue

In the world of barbecue, champion pitmaster Mike Mills is affectionately known as ā€œThe Legend.ā€ The late legend presided over the pits at his two nationally acclaimed 17th Street Barbecue barbecue restaurants in Southern Illinois.

He was co-captain of the Apple City Barbecue team, one of the most celebrated teams ever on the circuit. He is a four-time World Champion and three-time Grand World Champion at Memphis in May, otherwise known as the Super Bowl of Swine.

His book, Peace, Love, and Barbecue was nominated for a 2006 James Beard Foundation award and in 2010 Mike was inducted into the Barbecue Hall of Fame.

Amy Mills, owner of the renowned barbecue destination 17th Street, Amy is considered a complete authority on barbecue and the business that surrounds it.  Sheā€™s considered the industryā€™s go to girl for all things barbecue. Sheā€™s a featured judge on various barbecue shows such as Food Networkā€™s BBQ Brawl, Firemasters and CHOPPED.

This Memphis-style joint is so famous for competition-quality ā€˜cue that it has received virtually every award and accolade possibleā€”from ā€œBest Ribs in the U.S.ā€ by Bon AppĆ©tit to ā€œBest BBQ in Americaā€ by Travel & Leisure. This must try food joint epitomizes why President Clinton had them served curbside for Air Force One.
